Recently, I had a meeting that was scheduled at Palmer’s on Ingersoll. I’ve been to Palmer’s in Ankeny a number of times before, but this was my first time to their Ingersoll location. I had an idea of what to expect based on the Ankeny location, but was blown away by this Ingersoll location. To me, the interior was much more impressive.
For all intents, Palmer’s is a sandwich shop. They also offer soups, salads, and desserts, but they are known for their sandwiches. I’ve tried many of their sandwiches and usually fall back to my default, the Turnbery. It’s a sandwich comprised of smoked turkey, Havarti cheese, cream cheese, and cranberry chutney between two slices of multigrain bread. It’s refreshing and light. Their turkey is top drawer, and the tang of the cranberry is mellowed out by the Havarti and cream cheese.
While checking out, I noticed the numerous bottles of wine.
Palmer’s desserts are awesome. This was a fact I’d long ago established while frequenting the Ankeny location. Their cookies are stand up, but today I was feeling like a brownie. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best brownie I’ve had. I felt it wasn’t chocolatey enough, the frosting being much more sweet than chocolatey and the brownie itself was much more cake than nice, dense, rich, gooey chocolate brownie. Honestly, it was mediocre chocolate cake. But I do need to follow up the criticism by saying that their Pixie cookies are incredible…super chocolately and gooey, with a nice dusting of powered sugar! In fact, all of their cookies that I’ve had are awesome.
It’s a beautiful location no doubt, the modern theme carried well throughout the location.
The service was great, very kind and attentive. The quality of the food is also great, never leaving me feeling that corners were cut. Whereas their cookies are awesome, the brownie was only mediocre, if it could even be called a brownie (chocolate cake may have been more apropo). The sandwich was great. I’ve certainly discovered my new favorite Palmer’s location, that’s for sure. I have no qualms suggesting Palmer’s to anyone looking for a solid lunch choice or a group needing an event catered.
