We noticed Table 128 a few weeks ago when eating at RedRossa in Clive as they are just next door to one another. Walking past Table 128, we were intrigued. It has a beautiful ambiance that we could see through the windows and the people dining Al Fresco seemed happy and their food looked wonderful. Around that same time we had a few friends ask us if we’d had a chance to try it yet. With it now on our radar, we knew we needed to try it.
There’s been a few different restaurants where Table 128 is located. Originally, the location was home to Shane’s Rib Shack, and when that closed it then became Tartine. Now, it is home to Table 128 == and, we’re both hoping that it doesn’t change again as we both love Table 128.
We decided to go for lunch. It’s a small restaurant, with beautiful decor. We were immediately greeted with a warm welcome and seated.
The menu was one of the most fun and creative we’ve seen yet. It resembled a military dossier, almost like we were handed briefing information for our upcoming food mission.
The fun theme was carried through to our water glasses, that were retired wine bottles.
They bake all of their own bread. For an appetizer we had their Bread Basket. It feature a few different types of bread. The one that we both raved about was their spiced bread. It was absolutely incredible, with a sugary outside.
For my wife’s lunch she went with their soup and salad. For her soup she opted for their Minestrone and raved about how flavorful it was.
She had their Crab Cake Salad and loved it. It had a wonderful vinaigrette and corn on top. The crab cakes were crisp and flavorful, not unlike the ones we had in Daytona Beach a few years ago.
I opted for their Burger Rossini and side of homemade fries. The burger featured bacon, foie gras butter, gruyere cheese, arugula, and a thick and juicy slab of ground beef. I love burgers, and am always on the look out for the best burger. To date, the best burger ever is at the Gramercy Tap in Downtown Des Moines. But considering that’s a 30 minute drive from our home in Waukee, and Table 128 is less than half that, this is extremely appealing. Regardless, if Gramercy Tap makes the best burger, then Table 128 makes the second best. The fresh made fries paired perfectly.
Their desserts are seasonal and change depending on how the chef is inspired. We opted for their Pumpkin Blondie. We didn’t know what to expect, but we fell head over heels for it. It was perfectly spiced and had a wonderful crunch. The caramel glaze and whipped cream complemented the Blondie perfectly. We considered ordering seconds.
We finished with mugs of coffee. It was brewed nice and rich and completed the meal perfectly.
We loved the experience and food. Table 128 has become a favorite of ours. Generally, it’s tough to find great restaurants in the suburbs as this area tends to be home to many chains. But occasionally, you will find a hidden gem, as is Table 128. Let me encourage you to try Table 128. I believe you will find it is nothing short of amazing.
